Galaxy Buds have no button-hold reset β it lives in the Galaxy Wearable app, and the buds must be connected to it. What to do with a replacement bud.
Before you start
1First, the thing nobody tells you: there is no button combination
Almost every "reset your earbuds" instruction on the internet is some version of hold both touch pads for ten seconds. On Galaxy Buds that does nothing. Samsung puts the factory reset inside the Galaxy Wearable app, and the only hardware action is a restart. If you have been holding the touch pads and wondering why nothing happens, this is why β the buds are working exactly as designed.
2The hardware step you DO have: a restart
Put both earbuds in the charging case and CLOSE the lid. Wait at least seven seconds, then open it and take them out. They restart and reconnect to your phone on their own. This is Samsung's own first troubleshooting step and it clears a surprising share of one-side-not-working problems without erasing anything.
3Charge everything before you go further
Samsung asks for at least 15% on both buds before a reset. A bud that runs flat mid-procedure looks exactly like a failed reset, and this is the single most common reason a second attempt succeeds where the first did not.
4Factory reset β Galaxy Wearable app
Open Galaxy Wearable on the phone the buds are paired to, and make sure BOTH earbuds are showing as connected. Then: on Buds+, Buds Live, Buds Pro and Buds2, tap Earbud settings, then Reset, then Reset again to confirm. On the original Galaxy Buds the path is different β About earbuds, then Reset earbuds, then Reset. Newer models follow the Buds2 path, though Samsung moves the label between versions, so look for Reset under the earbud settings section.
5π΄ The catch with a replacement bud
The app reset needs the buds CONNECTED to it β and a replacement bud you just bought is not paired to anything, so it cannot connect, so the official reset is not available for it. Do it in this order instead: reset the pair you still have FIRST, from the app, while the old bud is still connected. Then remove the earbuds from your phone's Bluetooth list, put the new bud and the surviving bud in the case together, close the lid for ten seconds, and open it. They sync to each other on the next connection.
6If the app is not an option at all
Where you cannot reach the app reset β the old bud is lost, or the buds never paired β remove or forget the earbuds on EVERY device that has ever connected to them, not just your phone. A laptop or a second phone that still holds the pairing will grab one bud the moment it powers on, which looks identical to a failed reset. Then do the close-the-lid restart and pair fresh.
7Pair again, then test both sides
Open the case near your phone and pick the buds in the Bluetooth list. Then play music and check audio in BOTH ears, and make a test call β the microphone often lives in one specific bud, so a call is the only way to catch a dead mic.

Why will holding the touch pads not reset my Galaxy Buds?
Because Samsung did not build that in. Of all Samsung earbuds only the old Gear IconX had a physical power/restart button. On every Galaxy Buds model the factory reset is in the Galaxy Wearable app, and the hardware equivalent is putting them in the case with the lid closed for seven seconds, which restarts rather than erases them.
Can I reset Galaxy Buds from an iPhone?
Partly. Samsung publishes a Buds app for iPhone that can reset the Galaxy Buds+ and Galaxy Buds Live on iOS 10 or later. Other models expect the Galaxy Wearable app on an Android phone β borrowing one for five minutes is usually the quickest route.
Will a reset fix a bud that will not charge at all?
No. A reset clears settings and pairing, nothing else. If a bud shows no light and never charges, the fault is the bud or the case contacts β see our guide on telling the bud apart from the case before replacing anything.
Can I pair a replacement single bud to my existing one?
Yes, as long as it is the same model and generation. Follow the replacement-bud order in the steps above: reset from the app while the old bud is still connected, forget the buds on every device, then let the pair re-sync in the case.
