Most JBL buds reset by triple-tapping outside the case. Tune 215 and 225 reset from the RIGHT bud inside it — get this backwards and nothing happens.
Before you start
1Read the model name off the bud or the case first
With JBL this is not a formality. "Tune 225 TWS" and "Tune 235NC TWS" are one line apart in JBL's own documentation and reset in opposite ways — one inside the case, one outside it. The name is printed on the bud stem or inside the case lid. Get it before you start, not after two failed attempts.
2Most current JBL buds: triple tap, and hold on the third tap
This covers the Wave and Vibe series (Wave Buds, Wave Beam, Wave Flex, Wave 100/200/300 TWS and their 2nd-generation versions, plus the Vibe equivalents), the newer Tune buds (Tune Buds, Tune Beam, Tune Flex, Tune 130NC, 230NC, 235NC, 245NC) and the Live buds (Live Free 2, Live Pro 2, Live Beam 3, Live Flex 3), as well as Endurance Race. Triple tap either earbud, and on the THIRD tap press and hold that bud for more than 5 seconds. The earbuds power off, and that is the reset. For the Wave and Vibe series JBL add one condition that matters: both earbuds must be switched on and OUT of the charging case.
3Tune 215 and Tune 225: the opposite — in the case, right bud only
This is the one that wastes people's afternoons, and it is the JBL line we sell most replacement buds for. For Tune 115 TWS, 120 TWS, 125 TWS, 215 TWS, 220 TWS and 225 TWS, JBL say to place the earbuds IN the charging case, then tap and hold the RIGHT earbud for more than 5 seconds. Not either bud — the right one. Not out of the case — in it. If you have been triple-tapping these outside the case because that is what a JBL guide told you, that is why nothing has happened.
4If your case has a reset button, use it
Some JBL models ship with a Smart Case. On those, put both earbuds inside the case and press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds — it sits next to the charging port on the case. This is a hardware reset and it is the most reliable option when a bud is unresponsive enough that the touch controls are not reacting at all.
5Endurance models: check yours, because they all differ
The Endurance range is the clearest example of why the model name matters. Endurance Race and Race 2, Peak 3 and Peak 4 use the triple-tap-and-hold above. Endurance Peak: buds in the case, hold the RIGHT bud's touch button more than 10 seconds. Endurance Peak 2: buds in the case, hold the RIGHT bud more than 2 seconds — the LED flashes and turns off. Endurance Dive, Jump and Sprint: connect them to their charger first, then hold the touch button more than 15 seconds. Endurance Pace: hold the multifunction and volume-down buttons together more than 5 seconds.
6JBL headphones are a different procedure entirely
If you have the on-ear or over-ear JBL rather than buds — anything like Tune 510BT, 520BT, 660NC, 720BT, 770NC, or Live 460NC, 660NC, 770NC, and the Endurance Run neckbands — disconnect them from the Bluetooth device first, then press and hold Volume + and Volume - together for more than 5 seconds. The unit powers off and is reset.
7Or do it from the JBL Headphones app
If your model works with the JBL Headphones app, you can skip the button timing: open the app, tap Support, tap Reset to Factory Setting, then tap Reset. This is the easiest route when you are not certain you are holding for the right length of time, and it is JBL's own documented alternative rather than a workaround.
8Forget the old pairing, then pair and test both sides
JBL warn that you may need to remove the earbuds from your phone's list of paired Bluetooth devices before they will pair again. Do that on every device the buds have ever connected to — a laptop or a second phone still holding the pairing will grab one bud as soon as it powers on, which looks exactly like a failed reset. Then play audio and check BOTH ears, and make a test call, since the microphone often lives in one specific bud.

Why does my JBL reset not work when I triple tap?
Most likely you have a Tune 115, 120, 125, 215, 220 or 225 TWS. Those do not use the triple tap at all — JBL say to put the buds in the charging case and tap and hold the RIGHT earbud for more than 5 seconds. The triple-tap-and-hold applies to the Wave, Vibe, newer Tune and Live buds instead.
Do JBL earbuds reset inside or outside the charging case?
Both, depending on the model, which is the main thing people get wrong. For the Wave and Vibe series JBL specifically say both buds must be on and OUT of the case. For Tune 215 and 225 and their relatives, and for Endurance Peak and Peak 2, the buds go IN the case. If your model has a Smart Case with a reset button, that is also done with the buds inside.
How long do I hold the button on a JBL earbud?
It depends on the model and we only publish the time JBL state for that model. More than 5 seconds covers the triple-tap-and-hold models, the Tune 215/225 family and the JBL headphones. Endurance Peak is more than 10 seconds, Endurance Peak 2 more than 2 seconds, Endurance Dive, Jump and Sprint more than 15 seconds, and a Smart Case reset button is 10 seconds.
Will resetting help me pair a replacement JBL bud?
Yes — it is the step that makes two buds re-sync to each other, so it is the first thing to do with any replacement bud or replacement charging case. Make sure the replacement is the same model and the same side, then reset, then forget the old pairing on your phone before pairing again.
Does a reset erase anything I will miss?
It erases settings and Bluetooth pairing data, so you will set up EQ and controls again and re-pair on each device. One small exception JBL note: resetting the Endurance Dive does not erase the music stored in its MP3 memory.
