Every CMF model resets the same way β 10 seconds on the case button until the red light flashes three times. Nothing Ear is different; both covered.
Before you start
1First: do you have a CMF, or a Nothing Ear?
They are made by the same company and the reset is NOT the same, which is where most of the confusion comes from. If the product is branded "CMF by Nothing" β CMF Buds, CMF Buds 2, CMF Buds 2a, CMF Buds 2 Plus, CMF Buds Pro, CMF Buds Pro 2 β use the CMF step below. If it is branded Nothing Ear, skip to the Nothing Ear step. Check the case underside or your phone Bluetooth list if you are unsure.
2Charge the case and both buds before you start
A bud that runs flat halfway through a ten-second hold looks exactly like a failed reset. Put both buds in the case, charge for at least thirty minutes, and only then begin. This one step resolves a surprising share of "the reset does not work" messages we get.
3Forget the old pairing on every device
Not just your phone. Any laptop, tablet, TV or second phone that has ever connected to these buds can grab one of them the moment it powers back on, which looks identical to a failed reset. Remove or forget the earbuds on all of them before continuing.
4Reset β every CMF model, same procedure
This is the good news with CMF: unlike boAt, Noise or realme, the procedure does not change between models. Place BOTH earbuds into the charging case and leave the case OPEN. Press and hold the function button on the charging case for 10 seconds. The reset is complete when the red light flashes three times. Nothing publishes this same procedure for CMF Buds, CMF Buds Pro 2 and the CMF range generally β if yours is a CMF, this is the one.
5Reset β Nothing Ear (3a)
Different enough to be worth stating separately. Place both earbuds in the charging case and keep the lid open, then press and hold the pairing button for 10 seconds until the three indicators flash white rapidly in sequence. The bottom indicator then briefly turns red; once that red light goes out, the earbuds enter pairing mode on their own and the reset is done.
6Other Nothing Ear models: check the exact article
Nothing publishes a separate reset article for each of Ear, Ear (2), Ear (a), Ear (3), Ear (stick) and Ear (open), and we do not publish a hold time for a model unless the maker states one for that model specifically. If yours is one of those, search Nothing support for "reset" plus your exact model name rather than assuming it matches the CMF procedure.
7Pair again, then test both sides
With the lid open and the buds in the case, pick the earbuds in your phone Bluetooth list and accept the prompt. First connection can take around twenty seconds. Then play music and check audio in BOTH ears, and make a test call β the microphone often lives in one specific bud, so a call is the only way to catch a dead mic.
8If only one side comes back
Run the whole cycle once more, holding a few seconds longer than ten. Second attempts succeed far more often than you would expect. If it still fails after three tries with everything fully charged, the bud itself is the problem rather than the pairing β that is the point at which a replacement bud or case is the fix.
Get the parts for this repair
Does every CMF model really use the same reset?
Yes β Nothing documents the same procedure for CMF Buds, CMF Buds Pro 2 and the CMF range as a whole: both buds in the case, lid open, hold the case function button 10 seconds, red light flashes three times. That consistency is unusual. boAt, Noise and realme all vary the procedure between models that look nearly identical.
I searched for Nothing buds but I think mine says CMF. Which is it?
CMF is Nothing sub-brand, so both names are correct in a sense, but the reset differs. Most replacement parts people buy in India are for CMF models rather than the Nothing Ear flagships. If the case says CMF anywhere on it, use the CMF procedure.
Will a reset fix a bud that will not charge at all?
No. A reset clears the pairing record, nothing else. If a bud shows no light and never charges, the fault is the bud or the case contacts, not the pairing β see our guide on telling the bud apart from the case before you replace anything.
Can I pair a replacement single bud to my existing one?
Yes, as long as it is the same brand, model and generation. The reset procedure above is exactly what makes the two buds re-sync to each other, which is why it is the first thing to do with any replacement bud.
