Replacing a Phone Display (LCD Folder / Combo)

Before you start

Buy the FOLDER (display + touch pre-bonded, often with frame) rather than a bare glass — glass-only repair needs lamination equipment and fails at home.
Battery safety: never pry against the battery, and stop immediately if a pry tool dents it. A punctured lithium cell can ignite.
Test the new display BEFORE final assembly — folders are fragile in transit and a pre-glue test costs nothing.

Step-by-step

1Open from the back and disconnect the battery
Remove the back panel, shields, and disconnect the battery ribbon before anything else.
2Disconnect the display ribbons
The display's ribbon(s) run to press-fit connectors on the motherboard, usually under a screwed shield. Release them with a spudger — straight up, no twisting.
3Remove the broken display
For framed folders: unscrew the frame and lift the whole front assembly. For in-frame displays: heat the front border thoroughly and pry the shattered panel out of the frame recess, working tape over cracks.
4Dry-fit and TEST the new folder
Connect the new display's ribbons with the phone still open, reconnect the battery, power on, and check: full image, no lines, touch across the whole surface. Then power off and disconnect the battery again.
5Clean and glue
Strip all old adhesive from the frame recess, wipe with IPA, run a thin B-7000 bead (or fit the pre-cut gasket), and seat the folder evenly.
6Reassemble and cure
Reconnect ribbons, battery, shields, and back panel. Clamp or band the phone for 4–6 hours. Enrol fingerprints/Face unlock again if prompted.

What is the difference between a "folder" and just a screen?

A folder (also called a combo) is the LCD/AMOLED panel and touch glass factory-bonded as one unit, often with the frame. It swaps in as a single piece — which is why it is the reliable option outside a lamination lab.

My new display shows an image but touch is dead. Why?

Nine times out of ten a ribbon is not fully seated — disconnect and re-click it. If touch is still dead on a folder, the unit was damaged in transit; contact us with your order number.

Do I need to calibrate anything after a display swap?

Modern Android panels self-configure. Just re-enrol biometrics and, on some models, re-enable the always-on display setting.
