Fingerprint unlock stopped working or the sensor cracked? Replacing the fingerprint flex is one of the simpler internal repairs — here's the safe procedure.
Before you start
1Open the back and disconnect the battery
Heat and pry the back panel off (see our back-panel guide for the full technique), remove any shield over the battery connector, and unplug the battery.
2Locate the sensor and its ribbon
Rear sensors sit in a cutout in the frame with a short ribbon running under the motherboard or midframe to a press-fit connector. Trace it before pulling anything.
3Release the old sensor
Unplug the ribbon connector, then warm the sensor area from the OUTSIDE for 30 seconds and push the sensor out of its cutout gently from the inside. It is held by light adhesive.
4Seat the new sensor
Peel the new flex's adhesive backing, feed the ribbon through the frame cutout exactly along the old routing, and press the sensor face flush from outside.
5Connect, then test before closing
Plug the ribbon in, reconnect the battery, power on, and enrol a fingerprint in Settings BEFORE gluing the back panel. If enrolment works, close up; if the sensor is dead, reseat the connector first — it is the usual fix.
