Work through cable, adapter, lint and port in order before replacing anything. Most phones that will not charge do not need a new charging port at all.
Before you start
1Swap the cable and the adapter one at a time
Cables fail at the strain relief far more often than ports fail. Try a different cable with your adapter, then your cable with a different adapter or a laptop port. Changing both at once tells you nothing about which was broken.
2Look into the port with a torch
You are looking for grey compacted lint at the bottom, and for the tongue in the middle to sit straight and centred. If the plug feels shallow, or falls out under the weight of the cable, this is very likely lint rather than a failed port.
3Dry-pick the lint out
Phone powered off. Wooden or plastic toothpick only. Scrape from the back of the port towards the opening and work the compacted plug out in one piece. This single step fixes a large share of phones that will not charge, and it costs nothing.
4Test the wiggle
Plug in and gently move the cable up, down and side to side. If charging cuts in and out with movement, the port pins or its solder joints are worn and the charging board is the part you need. If charging is steady but very slow, suspect the cable or adapter instead.
5Separate a port fault from a battery fault
A phone that charges but drains almost immediately, gets hot, or shows sudden percentage jumps has a battery problem, not a port problem. A phone that shows no charging response at all with two known-good cables, after the port is clean, is a port or board fault.

Wireless charging works but the cable does not. What does that tell me?
That the battery and the charging circuit are fine and the fault is in the port itself. It is one of the cleanest diagnostic signals you can get, and it points straight at the charging board.
How do I know whether to buy a charging port or a whole charging board?
On most phones sold in India the port is not a separate component — it is soldered to a small flex board carrying the microphone and sometimes the vibration motor. That whole board is the replaceable part, which is what our charging port guide covers fitting.
It charges only when I hold the cable at an angle. Can that be repaired?
That is worn or bent port pins, and it gets worse. It is not repairable in any lasting way at home; the board is replaced. Continuing to force the cable at an angle risks tearing the port off its solder pads entirely.
The port got wet. Should I charge it to see if it works?
No. Charging a wet port is the fastest way to corrode the pins permanently or short the board. Leave the phone off, port down, in a dry airy place for at least 48 hours before trying. Rice does nothing useful.
